6 Easy Steps to Make a House More Energy Efficient

Many people are exploring the concept of renewable energy such as solar and wind power for residential usage. Due to the rising energy costs, home owners are frantically searching for ways to cut their monthly electricity bills.

One way of reducing your utility bills is by making your home more energy efficient. How do you make a house to use energy more efficiently? The following is a list of 6 easy ways to do so:

1) Keep it darker at night - One simple way to reduce power consumption is to switch off all the lights during night time. This in effect will make your home much darker compared to other houses. If you are concern about security, you can use a light source with a motion sensor switch.

2) Close the garage door all the time - By keeping the garage door closed, you are preventing cold air from coming into the living area during winter time.

By doing this, you are putting less strain to the heater.

3) Use blinds and awnings more often - By simply opening and closing the blinds, it prevents sun light from heating up the living from. With less solar radiation, you will switch on your air conditioning unit less often.

4) Use solar tubes or skylight - If you are designing a new house, include solar tubes or skylight on the blueprint. This simple feature uses natural sun light to brighten up a room.

5) Use a clothesline - Instead of using a dryer to dry your clothes, try using a clothesline in your backyard. Using this approach saves you money and less wear and tear on your clothes.

6) Switch off the TV - Some people are so used to the TV switched on in the background. If you don't want your living room to be too quiet, use a radio instead. It consume less power and has the same effect on a room.
